Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms
By using Zipf AI's services, you agree to these terms.
These terms are written to be clear and direct. If anything is unclear, contact us at support@zipf.ai.
2. Service Description
Zipf AI provides web data infrastructure through four main APIs:
- Search API: Query the web with advanced search operators, AI enhancements, and comprehensive query decomposition
- Crawl API: Extract structured data from websites with optional classification
- Workflow API: Run search or crawl jobs at regular intervals until conditions are met
3. API Access and Usage
API Keys
Keep your API keys confidential. If compromised, revoke them immediately in your dashboard and contact support@zipf.ai.
Rate Limits and Credits
Each tier has rate limits (requests per hour/day) and credit limits. When rate limits are exceeded, you receive a 429 response with a Retry-After header.
Credits are consumed per operation: 1 credit (basic) or 2 credits (with AI features). Find-all costs 1 + N credits (1 decomposition + 1 per sub-query). Check your balance via GET /api/v1.
Acceptable Use
You may not:
- Use the service for illegal purposes
- Attempt to circumvent security measures or rate limits
- Resell API access without authorization
- Violate robots.txt or terms of service of crawled sites
- Reverse engineer the service
4. Billing and Payment
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Credit consumption is tracked in real-time and visible in your dashboard.
If payment fails, you will be notified by email. Accounts are suspended after 7 days of non-payment.
5. Data and Privacy
We collect data necessary to operate the service and process billing. API logs are retained for 90 days, then deleted. See our Privacy Policy for details.
We do not train AI models on your data or sell your data to third parties.
When using the Crawl API, you are responsible for complying with robots.txt and terms of service of crawled sites.
6. Intellectual Property
The service and its infrastructure are owned by Zipf AI. Data retrieved via the API belongs to the original publishers. You retain ownership of your API integration code.
7. Service Availability
Free tier: Best effort availability (no SLA guarantee). Pro tier: 99% SLA. Scale/Enterprise: 99.5-99.9% SLA per contract.
SLA credits are provided when targets are not met. Service status is available at zipf.ai/status.
Scheduled maintenance is announced at least 24 hours in advance.
8. Limitation of Liability
Zipf AI is not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages. Total liability is capped at fees paid in the last 12 months.
SLA credits are provided per the applicable service level agreement. For stronger guarantees, contact us about Enterprise contracts.
9. Termination
You may cancel your account at any time. Free and Pro tiers have no long-term contract requirements.
We may suspend or terminate accounts for violation of these terms, non-payment, or illegal use. Notice will be provided except in cases requiring immediate action.
Upon termination, you have 30 days to export your data. After this period, data is deleted per our retention policy.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced via email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by New York law. Disputes will be resolved in New York courts.
12. Miscellaneous
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in effect. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any Enterprise agreement, constitute the entire agreement.
